Danny Wilson Memorial Awards


The Danny Wilson Memorial Awards were established to commemorate the life and work of the late Director of Brighton Photo Fringe who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 2008.

This year there are three categories Exhibitors' Choice, Professionals' Choice and Emerging Curators' choice

Exhibitors’ Choice

  • The best in-venue exhibition showing as part of the Photo Fringe 2024
  • the best online exhibition showing as part of Photo Fringe 2024

Selected by artists exhibiting in Photo Fringe 2024, each winner will be awarded a portfolio review with a Photo Fringe Board member and an interview / feature on the Photo Fringe website.



Professionals’ Choice

  • The best emerging photographer exhibiting in-venue as part of the Photo Fringe 2024
  • The best online exhibition created by an emerging photographer as part of Photo Fringe 2024
  • The best exhibition by a group or collective showing as part of Photo Fringe 2024

Each Professionals' choice winner will be awarded: £200 in cash, mentoring sessions with a Photo Fringe Board member, plus a Photo Fringe artist’s talk event during 2025.

Selections will be made by a team of respected industry professionals and curators

Emerging Curators' Choice

  • The best curation for an in-venue exhibition as part of the Photo Fringe 2024

  • The best curation by a group or collective showing as part of Photo Fringe 2024

Each Emerging Curators' choice winner will be awarded: a mentoring session with the Photo Fringe team, plus a Photo Fringe artist’s talk event during 2025.

Awards Ceremony

The winning photographers will be announced at our closing awards ceremony that follows our closing symposium on Saturday 16 November, Fulton A Lecture Theatre, University of Sussex.

Symposium, 2pm to 5.30pm

Awards ceremony, 5.30–6.00pm

Followed by drinks at Falmer Bar.
