Renters - we have no voice

Lynn Lee

Renters don’t have a voice, they are at the mercy of rental accommodation availability, the landlord, the letting agent and their income. The people I'm highlighting aren't differentiated by culture, ability, race or gender, but by lack of voice.

The stories that the renters tell is diverse, complex and informed the photographs that I took. Renters are of all ages, what they have in common is that they all need to rent. If they're still renting in their 40's, 50's, 60's or older - will that work? Can they still rent those rooms? Many feel they will be renting with another person so will share the bills, but those who are older and have no partner are less hopeful that anything will change for them. They worry that when they reach retirement age they will not be able to afford to rent anywhere suitable or even if there will be enough housing to go around if they could.

Artist biography

I've been taking photographs for over 30 years, mainly portrait and urban landscape. Recently I've been looking at social issues and how to open up discussion on these by photographic documentary.
