Hot Glue - Alternative Creators of the Brighton Scene
Rob Trendy
Creativity often starts in the bedroom, with makeup, cardboard and fabric. In these cluttered spaces, artists explore character, aesthetic, conceptual imagery and more. Underpinning all of this? Hot glue.
This collection largely exists in collaboration with the weird and unconventional artists and performers on the fringes of Brighton’s cultural offering. Their creativity explores the peculiar and the ugly, discovering creativity and beauty in darker, less glamorous spaces.
The photographer, Trendy, worked closely with a range of creatives, including up-and-coming drag acts, performance artists, and fine artists, to capture their atypical and interesting creations.
Rob Trendy hopes that by shining a light on these artists, who are often the ‘weird’ act in the show or in the gallery, he can increase awareness of the tremendous creativity found in unsettling corners and niches. He hopes viewers will feel more free to explore the unusual, the bizarre, and the depraved in their own imaginations and creative practice.
