Tableau

IRIS Collective

‘Tableau’ presents six photographs from the collective’s individual practices as five works orbiting around a sixth central image. The playful juxtaposition of these images invites the viewer to query the relationships between seemingly unrelated elements or parts through a language of tension, interpretation and contradiction.

As the eye transitions from one photograph to another, crossing each boundary and intention, perception falls away. This in turn bridges the varied visual language of each individual artist thus creating a sense of continuity and a shared understanding.

IRIS Collective

The Iris Collective comprises six lens-based artists who graduated from the University of Brighton MA (Photography) in 2022. The collective’s members are Syl Ojalla, Elizabeth Doak, Torz Dallison, Lorraine Edridge, Andy Lloyd and Bill Brooks.

The group’s first show was held at a pop-up venue in Dukes Lane, Brighton, as part of the 2020 Photo Fringe festival. In September of 2021, we presented a much larger exhibition, In a Silent Way, at The Regency Town House in Hove. Since that time, work by individual members has also been exhibited at The Phoenix Gallery (Brighton), ONCA Gallery (Brighton), The Royal Academy (London), Full Frontal (Eastbourne), The Royal Photographic Society (Bristol), The Makers’ Gallery (Lewes), The Oxmarket Contemporary (Chichester), the i360 (Hove), the Grange Gallery (Rottingdean), as well as at several venues during Photo Fringe 2022.

Whilst bodies of work by Iris Collective’s members explore different underlying ideas (including personal loss, memory and environmental threats), their work is connected by a shared reflective style.
