Body / Land / Home
Body / Land / Home presents the work of four artists who each centre the body in their photographic practice: the body as the subject itself - with all its perfectly imperfect dimples and wrinkles; the body as a conduit for kinship with the land; and the body as home for the self and the soul, when home is a hard feeling to find.
Threads of recognition shimmer between these artists’ bodies of work: connection to place ~ photography as experiment ~ belonging in landscape ~ divine mortality ~ black and white tones ~ democratising beauty ~ nudity ~ physicality ~ brave honesty
Through this web of interconnection, the artists ask whether we can say more with the body and photography than our current culture has told us we can? Can the camera tell stories of bodies that still possess their full agency and – if so – what kind of stories might these be?
