Kirsty Mackay was born Glasgow and grew up in a working-class tenement block in the city. Her experience underpins her approach to photography, both in terms of the topics she chooses and her approaches to them. Shooting portraits and documentary images, Mackay tackles poverty without demonising or patronising the people who face it. Visit Kirsty’s website here

Kelly O’Brien is an artist, researcher, and educator, originally from Derby. She was raised on state benefits in a council house by her single mother and collaborator, within a vibrant Irish immigrant and poor working-class community. These formative experiences deeply underpin her work. Visit Kelly’s website here

Both talks will have a Q&A section to ask the artists questions about their practice. Drinks and refreshments will be available to purchase throughout the evening.
